The Art Of The Jello Shot You can make jello shots with almost any type of alcohol, but you should adjust the proportions of alcohol and cold water to ensure that the shot still sets. The higher the proof of the alcohol, the more water that is required for it to set. (1 cup=8 ounces)
IF Proof=80-100 then use Alcohol=10 ounces and Cold Water=6 ounces IF Proof=150-200 then use Alcohol=6 ounces and Cold Water=10 ounces Use of different alcohol for jello shots
Rum jello shot: Rum jello shots have a more sweeter taste in jello and will provide your jello with a more sugary taste. Should you choose to use coconut rum to make jello shots, be sure to note that it will take the taste from the original flavor of the jello shot itself. Spirit of choice for making this jello shot is bacardi rum or captain morgan coconut rum. Tequila jello shot: Tequila jello shots are quite rare but they do exist. These jello shots are infused with tequila for the strong taste of tequila. These jello shots will hit you hard, so be advised to take these in moderation. The best tequila jello shot is the sauza lime tequila jello shot Misc jello shot: These jello shots generally use either a mix drink as jello shot or one of the following for spirit: goldschlager, ouzo, jack daniels, southern comfort etc.. These jello shots are really taste oriented, so these jello shots might taste great or bad! Convert (almost) any cocktail into a Jelly Shot: You may be surprised by these results, but you can make almost any classic cocktail recipe into a jelly shot. If you get the mixture right the final product will be better than using the flavored Jell-O Shot recipe above. The key is to get the proportions correct and to take into consideration the amount of sugar. Try Manhattan Jelly Shots, Mint Julep Jelly Shots, Banana Daiquiri Jelly Shots, Margarita Jelly Shots, Whiskey Sour Jelly Shots or any of your favorite cocktails. Basic directions and tips:
You will want to add a small amount of sugar to reduce the tartness of the finished jelly shot. Simple syrup works best and if you use it, it can take the place of a portion of the water. Add boiling water, stirring until the gelatin is dissolved. Use approximately 1/3 of the total sum of the other liquid ingredients. Mix the liquids using the same ratio as you would for the regular cocktail recipe and add them to the gelatin mixture. You want to plan on having between 7-9 ounces (water included) of liquid for one 1/4 ounce packet of gelatin. Add food coloring. Many of these concoctions will not be very pleasing to the eye. So add small amounts of food coloring, a little at a time, mixing as you go until you have the color you want. Distinguish a variety shots by using different colors for each: Yellow Banana Daiquiri Jelly Shots, Red Planter's Punch Jelly Shots, etc. Refrigerate until cool. Pour into shot glasses, molds or a baking pan for a sheet of Jell-O to cut up once set. Refrigerate until the liquid sets. (At least 2 hours, but overnight refrigeration is recommended) Serve cold. Jello shots can be served in shot glasses, and can be virtually any color. Many, though, prefer jello shots in paper cups which can be turned inside out to free the jello from the cup. Even Large Jello Molds can be used, If you do serve jello shots in shot glasses, be sure to also provide knives, toothpicks, or some other mechanism to free the shot from the glass. Alternatively, warming the glass will cause the jello shot to slide free which can be accomplished by steeping them in warm water for less than a minute. If you are planning a jello shot party, consider diluting your shots with more cold water and less alcohol. Since the alcohol is contained within the jello, it is absorbed more slowly and even experienced drinkers will often underestimate how much they have had to drink. They will also be less expensive, can be more often enjoyed, and your party will last longer. |
